A CHORUS LINE
After its highly successful production of Honk, Ophidian Entertainment presents “A Chorus Line,” the beloved classic musical that reveals a ‘behind the scenes’ look at the rigorous audition process that dancers face as they hope to be hired as chorus members in a Broadway production. Large dance numbers and songs are combined with solos and poignant monologues in this inspiring story. The dancers are driven to not only dazzle with their talents but also to divulge their true characters. Memorable musical numbers include I Hope I Get It, At The Ballet, Dance: Ten; Looks: Three and One. Ophidian Producer Pat Waldron brings together the many talents of Director/Choreographer Sylvia Hosie and Musical Director Heather Darts to share this spectacular musical with Vancouver audiences for the first time in many years.
Opening on Broadway in 1975, this musical has enchanted seven million theatre-goers and won nearly every possible award imaginable including 9 Tony Awards, 5 Drama Desk Awards, 3 Obie Awards and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Musical. It is the second longest running show in Broadway history, running for 6,137 performances. A Chorus Line was conceived and originally directed and choreographed by Michael Bennett. Book by James Kirkwood and Nicholas Dante. Music by Marvin Hamlisch. Lyrics by Edward Kleban. In addition to its success as a stage musical, A Chorus Line was also made into a film starring Michael Douglas.
“…It is a brilliantly complex fusion of dance, song and compellingly authentic drama. The show was instantly recognized as a classic. - Tams Witmark
